Weekend Away…Kid Free!

Yes, you read right…weekend away & it is kid free!  Well, Saturday morning to Sunday night!  We try to get out at least a few nights a month for dinner, a movie or just some quiet time away from the kids…  I think of it as a couple re-charge.  My husband & I have always believed that you still need to connect as adults, as husband & wife…not just Mommy & Daddy.  We are fortunate to have both of our Moms close by, they usually are able babysit for us.  But sometimes it just means eating dinner together after the kids go to bed or relaxing with a glass of wine outside on a summer night, just doing something together after the kids are asleep without any distractions.  There are certainly times that we both get caught up in other things, but that time is needed & necessary.

Which brings us to our weekend!!  We are heading to Long Island to visit some of the vineyards & do their wine tastings.  Long Island is a drive & ferry ride away from us…so easy to get to & so much to offer.  Wine, great restaurants, farmers markets, beautiful views & wonderful accommodations!  We did this trip once already, about 5 years ago, before marriage & kids.  We really enjoyed it, but haven’t had a chance to return until now.  To say we are looking forward to it seems like a understatement. WE CAN NOT WAIT!!

I tend to be a planner…so…I already have a tentative itinerary planned.  Tentative because we may drive by somewhere that we want to stop or get a recommendation from someone.

What do you do to re-charge with your spouse or significant other?  How important is it at this point in your relationship?
