What’s for dinner?

What are you having for dinner tonight?  Do you know?  Do you have something planned already?  Meal planning can be an important tool in helping you get a healthy meal on the table every night for dinner.

I’ve used meal planning in the past and I’m trying to get back to it.  The first time I tried I went with a month, which was way too long for my family…the plan changed to often when planning that far out.  I ended up juggling meals around and sometimes not cooking a meal which then had to be thrown out due to spoiled food or something was defrosted then not cooked.  For my family planning a week at a time works the best, I plan dinners for Monday through Friday with Saturday and Sunday “open” nights to do something else.

Pinterest has made weekly meal planning so much easier!  Are you on Pinterest?  If not, get on…NOW!  I made a board Weekly Meals, which I update with 5 meals per week, so I always know what I’m cooking.  I usually “pin” my meals sometime the week before, going by what looks good, something new we want to try, seasonal ingredients or a meal we have had before and really liked.  Once I have my 5 meals I compile my shopping list, adding any other items I need for breakfasts, lunches or snacks.  By planning out your meals and shopping list, you can buy only what you need for the week, which cut down on your grocery bill by skipping unnecessary items.  Meal planning is also a way of making healthier choices for your family.  By taking the time to plan and shop, you would be less likely to use “convenience” foods when dinner time comes around.
